Xin hãy góp sức lên tiéng kêu cứu cho anh Điếu Cày! | for everyone |

Your Honorable ... Position and name of the person this letter is addressed to (tên và chức vụ bà Boxer, Feinstein hoặc Clinton)
My name is (tên người gửi email) and on behalf of the Vietnamese community in California, I am writing you today to ask for your help. Currently, there is a Vietnamese journalist who is in prison due to peaceful protests that have brought awareness to the corruption that is running rampant in Vietnam. The prisoner, Nguyen Hoang Hai, also known as Dieu Cay, is co-founder of the Free Vietnamese Journalists’ club and writes a blog expressing his concern for the country he loves so much and the Vietnamese people who are suffering because their own government will not help them. He brings light to the issues of China, wrongly and forcefully overtaking Vietnamese land and property without any objections from the Vietnamese government. Not only does he do this in writing, but also in organizing peaceful protests in front of the Chinese Embassy.
Here in California, and wherever Vietnamese refugees have settled in America, we look to this man as a hero. Mr. Hai is doing what we wish we could do for our motherland. His bravery and strength keeps us strong and hopeful that one day our beloved country will be one free of communism and corruption. For the past two and a half years Mr. Hai has been in prison due to allegations of tax fraud, a charge that is believed to be politically motivated. Although near the completion of his imprisonment, authorities continued to detain him incommunicado as he is being investigated under “Article 88 of the 1999 Penal Code for ‘conducting propaganda’ against the state,” according to a recent press release.
Mr. Hai was also relocated to Xuan Loc prison, miles away from his home of Ho Chi Minh City, making it extremely difficult for his family to visit him. According to the same press release, “political prisoners held incommunicado are particularly vulnerable to torture and ill-treatment.” Since October 2010, his family has made 13 requests to send food, medicine and money to Mr. Hai, but all were rejected by the Vietnamese government. Prisoners rely on these supplies from their family because Vietnam prison conditions are generally harsh, with little food and health care.
It is not known where he is now being held, how he is being treated or his state of health. His family and friends fear for his safety.
So we urge you, the leaders of our great and free country, to help this prisoner of conscience.
We ask you to put pressure on the Vietnamese government to release Nguyen Hoang Hai immediately and unconditionally.
We ask you to call on the authorities to allow Mr. Hai immediate access to his family, lawyer and a doctor.
We ask you to urge that he is not tortured or ill-treated in detention.
The Vietnamese community living in the United States all remember, or have at least heard stories of Vietnam’s painful past and the residual damage that still remains. Although it has been 36 years since the fall of Saigon, the anger and hurt still remains with us today. Now as a law abiding citizen of this great nation, the United States of America, and a Vietnamese at root, I feel as connected to Mr. Hai’s beliefs and actions as strongly as any human beings in this earth for his/her individual rights. Those are to be free to fight and express your constructed opinions for the better living condition for yourself and your countrymen, to be free to show your patriotism and organize peaceful protest against any other country, like China, when it is trying to invade your small but independent nation, to be free to choose your religion, etc…
So please, look at the amount of signatures we have gathered, at the goal we are trying to accomplish and help us show that the fight for liberty and justice, is in fact, for all.
I ask for your consideration, your help and your swift action on this matter.
Thank you.
